Day 2 with Duncan

Sasha picked us up at 9:30 to go to the orphanage it was pouring down rain and the streets in places were flooded.  I have never seen such poor streets in my whole life, there are holes that I could lay down in.  Once we got to the orphanage he took us upstairs we were met by one of the workers and several children that ran to the door.  The care taker yelled for Duncan and I saw him across the room he turned around and saw us and he came running knocking several children to the floor. I was so surprised he had remembered us he went straight to his  daddy to pick him up it made my heart smile.  It was wonderful they took us to a room to play with him, there we met another couple from Canada who is also adopting.  But let me tell you it was on at that point, that boy had us sweating he was all over that room he has so much energy and is very stubborn. Allen and I were laughing about how we were having to chase him around that room, whew I thought I was going to die with a heat stroke before it was all over. He is defintely going to keep our family busy.  Does anybody have any recommendations on how I am going to keep him occupied on a 15 hour train ride and flight back to the states ? Please give me some suggestions. He is wonderful and so happy I can't wait to get him home to meet his new brother and sister.

  5. He's absolutely adorable...

Our 23 month old granddaughter lives with us and she is just like Duncan all over the place.

I had read about this woman who had purchased an iTouch for her toddler daughter, while pondering the thought of driving 12 hours in a vehicle with a child that hates to be strapped in for more than 15 minutes at a time I thought to myself could this "really" work? We purchased one and downloaded a bunch of FREE apps and it has been the absolutely best thing we've done. We bought the Fisher Price headphones for toddlers that has a volume control on them and she works that iTouch like a champ.

I had been reading the others who had gone over to adopt were finding that the kids were working their cellphones and finding apps that kept them busy. too cute! These kids are little wizards so quickly.

    What a great updated post.

    Have fun!

  6. Oh, he is SO cute!! We have a special place for Duncan in our hearts. We were pursuing adoption and were totally taken with him when we found out I was pregnant. We are so excited to find out that he had found a family. I have enjoyed following your journey and can't wait for him to get home!!! Congrats!

  7. Hayden hates the carseat and we took her to NY with us which is about the same as the train ride time wise, lots of snacks, portable TV/DVD player, coloring books, crayons and multiple toys helped. Unfortunately when he is done you can't stop the train to find a playground like we did to help burn off some of that energy. She did well this trip, maybe the train ride being something different will be interesting and keep him occupied :)
